The Science of Citrus Cleaners - What makes Citrus King Work So Well?

Most people know that natural industrial cleaners, made from highly refined orange oil, are great all purpose cleaners. More than that, they are all natural, heavy duty cleaners that get tough jobs done and are safe for people, pets, and the environment. So what is the science behind this? What's so great about these special formulas that contain an element so readily found in nature?

The natural citrus solvents that these green labs are creating include a special formula. A highly refined solvent. The main purpose of the solvent's scientific make-up is to do two things. First, the highly refined orange oil solution actually liquefies grease and oils safely. That's right, it takes that caked on, nasty grease and oil and turns it into a thin liquid.

The next thing these solvents do is they dissolve solids, like dirt, into tiny particles. This helps the surfactants found in these citrus cleaners do their job. Surfactant stands for Surface Active Agent. You will find this in any cleaning product you may use. The type varies, but any cleaning agent has to have one.

Basically, what happens is that the surfactant is dissolved into the solvent. They line up at the boundary between the solvent and the solid. The solid is the dirt or grime we're trying to clean. The surfactant causes a chemical change in this boundary and is able to surround the solid to dislodge it from the surface it's attached itself to. Once these agents have done their job, the liquid washes the dirt away. This is what the liquid (like water) you've used to dilute the solvent is good for.

So there you have the science behind why these citrus cleaners work so well. Scientists have to use powerful, dangerous chemicals to try to recreate this natural process in chemical cleaning products. It's not necessary. Our minds have been led to believe that dangerous chemical cleaning products are somehow better. They are not and now you have the science behind it.

How to Properly Use CITRUS KING ® Asphalt Release Agent

Citrus Depot makes a product called Citrus King Asphalt Release Agent. It's another earth-friendly product in their line. This product is a low-odor, highly safe, and effective water-soluble asphalt release agent. Ideally it is used as an alternative to diesel fuel and other hydro-carbons. It has been designed to provide easy separation of asphalt materials from beds of dump trucks, pavers, rollers and material transfer vehicles.
Citrus Depot's Asphalt Release Agent has been specifically developed to be used with conventional hot asphalt mixes and with polymer modified asphalts. Citrus King's Asphalt Release Agent is made with all natural vegetable/plant oil, is biodegradable and can be used with all types of asphalt. It has the ability to be diluted.
Citrus King's Asphalt Release Agent has a flash point of over 260 degrees Fahrenheit and is stable from 25 degrees Fahrenheit to 140 degrees Fahrenheit. The Release Agent will not affect the bonding of the asphalt to any paving surface.

How to Apply Citrus King Asphalt Release Agent

Apply a consistent coating of Citrus King Asphalt Release Agent on tools and truck beds before contact with the asphalt. Once applied, a thin film extends out across the bed of the truck. The film prevents the asphalt from sticking to the surface of the truck bed.

Dilution Ratios for Using the Release Agent

Citrus Depot's Asphalt Release Agent is highly dilutable. For the best result possible, start with a one to one dilution. Remember, different asphalts call for different dilutions, so prepare a test first for the best possible results.
  • One to one:    use for heavy applications use one part release agent to one part water.
  • One to two:    use for medium applications use one part release agent to two parts water.
  • One to three:   use for lighter applications use one part release agent to three parts water.

Removing Glue and Adhesives With Citrus King® Tile - Mastic - Adhesive Remover

When removing glued-down flooring, such as tile, linoleum or carpet, you need to get as much of the old adhesive off the subfloor as possible. You want to leave a smooth surface for the new flooring.

Follow our advice to remove the adhesives from unwanted flooring in your home or business.

Steps to Remove Flooring

When tile is removed from any flooring, it can be done in two parts. First, remove the tile by either scraping or chiseling it from the floor. Then, the adhesive that was holding it in place must be removed from the subfloor. Depending on the type of flooring and the type of adhesive underneath it, different methods can be used to remove the glued down flooring.

Tools to Remove Flooring Adhesive

  • A hand scraper: This tool is the most time consuming and can take a lot of work. Wear gloves to avoid blisters.
  • A power scraper: This tool is the fastest way to scrape a floor. A power scraper machine can be rented at most hardware stores.

What is Mastic Adhesive

Mastic adhesive is an organic compound used to adhere to floor and wall tiles. This adhesive is used in dry areas and can also be used on counter tops and older floors. Mastic is water-resistant and it will not dissolve when coming in contact with water.

Removing Glue, Adhesives and Tile Mastic

  • It is always recommended that you test a small area first.
  • After removing the tiles, you need to remove the excess mastic or glue. Use the Citrus King Tile and Mastic Adhesive Remover with a mop or sprayer. Soak the entire area you will be removing the adhesive from.
  • Allow the mastic remover to soak into the adhesive for a minimum of 20 minutes until it becomes soft.
  • Some adhesives may take longer. A second application may be required.
  • Then, scrape off the remaining adhesive with a floor or razor scraper.
  • For heavily applied adhesive areas, re-apply the Citrus King Tile and Mastic Adhesive Remover and allow the remover to soak for a few minutes, then scrape.
  • Thoroughly wash and rinse flooring with water.
  • Citrus King® recommends using a shop vac to clean up excess water off of the floor. This will also speed up the drying time for the floor.
  • Allow a couple of hours to dry.

    Removing Glue From Wood Flooring

If you have a wood floor that you are trying to remove glue, adhesives or mastic from, cover the surface with Citrus King Tile and Mastic Adhesive Remover and allow the mastic remover to soak for a minimum of 20 minutes. Then apply the remover to rags and wipe clean.
